Bad weather days

Hi

I've only been cycling a few weeks but I'm loving every minute of it! I try to get out as much as possible but the last few nights the weather has been awful so it got me thinking...

What's the best exercises for me to be doing to make my cycling better? Other than cycling of course (I understand a turbo or rollers would be best for these days but won't be purchasing anything like that till the end of summer)

Thanks :)

Same here, I was quite happy to cycle round in the snow, but 30mph+ side winds just isn't worth it. If I don't get blown over, a car will probably get blown into me.

I got a turbo trainer off Ebay for a fiver, best time to look is when you don't need one as they aren't in high demand so good deals can be had.

If your really desperate, work on the core, push ups and sit ups help, the muscles are needed in cycling but don't get a good enough work out to build by cycling alone.

Judging by the KOMs I lost tonight whilst staying in, I can't help thinking that getting out and riding in stupidly strong winds seems to be the best way to improve performance, just ensure the wind is going in the right direction :)

I say, steady on. That's taking things too far :) .

I bought a cheapish turbo on eBay after months of terrible weather over the winter. I have to admit that I don't really enjoy it though so I try to get out whenever I can.

I went out last night in the breeze. At one point I was in my lowest gear and standing on the pedals to achieve 7 mph going down hill

The return leg however was a blast; 25-37 mph all the way! :D

I've had that, went up a hill and was protected by the wind, once at the top and turned off I was exposed to an opening and found it harder going down hill lol

Going out in bad weather makes you quicker and fitter......

It's not bad until the paint starts washing off your bike. And I'm being serious, met a cyclist at a B&B in Iceland last month who had literally had the paint stripped from the right side of his frame by a mixture of heavy rain and volcanic ash!
