2X10 Front mechs

I have a 2012 stumpjumper fsr frame and xt 38/24 chainset.
Apparently i need an e2 type xt front mech but it only has a capacity of 12, however i have a 14t difference between chainrings.

Seems weird that every other xt 2x10 front mech has a capacity of 14 but the e2 12, will it work ok?

I think the E2 refers to the mounting. However, as you say according to Shimano, the E2 can only manage 12 not 14. Very strange.

Strangely the new SLX E2 model has a capacity of 14, looks the same design as the xt model. Maybe the XT instructions since the introduction of the newer 38/24 combo

I want the xt but should i get the slx?

If it's only the actual mech that's slx, the cranks, chain rings and every thing else is xt, you probably won't be able tell.

Have you changed the granny ring yourself as the xt 2x10 are 38/26 not 24 so possibly problem solved?

Actually, bith are available, 38-24 and 38-26.
