Bought some 'carbon'bottle cages for my road bike, however they make a hell of a racket when riding. Im guessing it's the top clip that is bouncing and hitting the frame.

To Be honest it annoys me. So recommend some none vibrating bottle cages!

These seem to be very popular and address the issues you have.

Funnily enough they were on the bike when I borrowed it and were amazing!

I use the Elite cages too and they've always performed perfectly. Don't see the point using anything else.

I removed my Planet X carbon cage from my Orca because I couldn't stand the drumming noise that full bottles made going over bumps. The noise seems to be amplified by the carbon frame acting like a violin or guitar body. I even tried sticking bits of foam inside the carbon cage to stop the noise. Those "nice carbon fibres" mentioned above seem identical to the Planet X ones.

The solution was to buy an Elite Pria Pave cage from Halfords. It's a lightweight plastic composite cage with a Boa-style thumbwheel which tightens the cage around the bottle. No more drumming noise and the bottle is really secure. Best cage I've used. The only disadvantage is that some bottles are just too tight a fit to be removed easily. I notice Cycling Plus recently awarded it best in test.

Another plus 1 for the elite, carbon cages do have the bling factor but unless you have done everything else you possibly can to save weight on the bike and have plenty of disposable income they are a bit of a waste in my opinion. The elite custom is good enough for the pro peloton...

I just got some Lezyne Flow composite (= reinforced plastic) cages and some Camelbak Podium bottles. Good combination; very secure and completely silent, which is quite an achievement given the accoustic properties of my oversize, thin walled downtube.

+1 for the Elite Custom. They're flexible too so will take the SIS 1 litre bottles that are a little wider than average.

I had trouble finding the Stealths a while back. I ordered them from BikeDiscount.de in the end. Not much more expensive and still in stock.

I have tried a few and the elite (I have the carbon ones but just for looks) are by far and away the best. No noise, they hold the bottle securely and more importantly the you can pull the bottle out easily. Can't recommend them enough.

Best are usually considered to be the Arundel Mandible but they're far from cheap.

Tacx Tao are certainly strong but I found my Camelback podiums rattled around in them. The Elite's often get a mention too though as good ones and I have high hopes for some of the cages that Lezyne have started making as I've never come across a bad Lezyne product.
