Am looking to upgrade my 2010 Cube XC bike for a new XC race/marathon weapon and thought I'd get some ideas for a shortlist from you guys.

My requirements are -

29er (can't beat em join em...still got the Pivot for knarly duties anyways)
100mm travel both ends roughly (back won't stand for a hardtail at my ripe age)
lightweight (around 11-12kg would be nice)
Ideally I want it as cheap as possible, would go for a 2012 bike if it meant a good deal. But around the £2000 mark if possible. Or could possibly just buy the frame/wheels/forks and transfer some bits to save money.

Bikes of interest so far -

Whyte M109 or 109-S
Trek Superfly
Scott Spark
Cannondale Scalpel 29er
Giant Anthem 29er

Any recommendations, advice or opinions would be appreciated, cheers.

Ride a few, buy the one you like. A lot of people will recommend Sparks, I don't like them myself - you have to use the TracLoc loads to get the most out of it, I like to just pedal.

Would certainly add the Epic to that list though.

Yeah Mountain Trax have a Spark I was going to demo at some point. I know Canyon's are good value as well, shame it's hard to throw the leg over one for a test ride. Will look at the Epic as well, just find Specialized bikes a bit common, perhaps that's for a good reason though.
