SQUEAK!!! from the rear derailleur area
Hello
during the later half of the Dartmoor demon this weekend bike now sounds like it has mice....put this down to the weather and a small ford crossing!
bike cleaned and re-lubed..... out for a quick ride today and its still there. Returned home and and can just about here the squeak coming from the rear area (cant pin point it exactly) when turning the crank by hand.... I've only some wet lube at home until the lbs opens. I applied the lube on all the moving parts and still can't shift the noise.
The noise seems worse on a ride maybe due to load?
What do I need to clean, grease or fix?
Its not he pedals and only squeaks when turning the cranks not when free wheeling.
Im not mechanic...gearset is ultegra
hope you can help!
thank you

I have known the rubber dust cover on the rear axle to do this - bit of grease on it fettles it!0

Remove, clean and re-lube gear jockey wheels. Also lightly lube chain (after cleaning if it's dirty).
Most likely to be jockey wheels.
PS - also check if the jockey wheels are worn, and replace if they are.0 -
My money would also be on the jockey wheels. If in doubt take them out for a good clean and relube. (Easiest if you do them one at a time; keeps the mech cage together and you can't mix up the upper and lower pulleys)0

thanks all. will try and remove these later0

I had exactly this problem this weekend. An annoying squeak that was coming from the RD. l removed, cleaned, greased and replaced the jockey wheels but STILL there was a squeak. As a last resort l removed the chain, and low and behold, it was the chain that was squeaking!
Has anyone ever seen/heard of that? The chain has done no more than 1500 miles.
I use Green oil white wax lubricant but am now doubting it. Can anyone recommend a good lube?
Cheers,

I think the wax based lubes don't get into or stay where they are needed. Only time I ever had a squeaky drivetrain I was trialling something waxy. I now just use 3 in 1 oil carefully applied to each pin in turn, few spins of the cranks and wipe off the excess.0
