Michelle has just tweeted Puccio to make sure he knows her Chris is the leader for the Tour.

I'm feeling a tad emotional re young Salvatore and may have to swig out of this bottle of prosecco I have to hand

What a dream for him.... :D

EDIT: just realised that after 3 years of, let's say, disappointing TTTs where on paper they should have done much better...they've now won 2 in a row. Sorry, boring observation I know.

Ditto, only ever drink prosecco after clubruns when the giro is on. Just found out from my mum that dad almost took a job in Ischia when I was a baby (1960), reckon I'd have a better tan now if he had!

Apparently the plan was to put Cataldo in pink but Puccio hung on and his better palcing from stage 1 puts him in the jersey
Puccio was slightly embarrassed but happy to pull on the maglia rosa.

"It's a surprise to have taken the pink jersey but I'm very happy. The idea was to try and give it Cataldo but I hung on and finished in the same time. I had a better stage results yesterday and so I got the jersey. I have to thank the team for this special moment," he said............"This is my first Giro d'Italia. It'll be great to wear the pink jersey for a few days. I'll ride up front and we'll see what happens."

Puccio's day. Bit of a fairytale really even if he never wears it again in his career. Something for his grand-kids
I remember 1993 Giro and the first stage (on the Isle of Elba) in the morning (Stage 1a) that Moreno Argentin broke away to solo the win.
He received his first ever "Maglia Rosa" jersey in his long career of Multitude Classic Wins.
He thought he would never get one and was so excited with it.

So whatever that young man achieves he will now always get free wine where ever he goes in Italy.

    I didn’t see the stage, but …

Lol indeed, all looking backwards for the fifth rider
how come Movistar temporarily lost their fifth rider. I read they were actually quicker than Sky up to the first checkpoint, and 5 came in together at the end. What happened inbetween?

I read Euskatel, when down to 5, one had a puncture, so maybe they deserve some sympathy.

Not really surprised... they had to ride "tranquillo" so as not to shell out Cav. It wouldve been bad to shell out the maglia rosa on the only day he will have it in the Giro. Besides they were never going to win the TTT anyway, so why embarrass the jersey and team leader for a 5th place? I suspect that they were the only team to finish with 9 riders intact, no? If so, that is pretty strong evidence of soft-tapping.

Eh? Cav usually Bosses Team Time Trials

A youth being forced to ride Team Pursuits stands him in reasonable stead...

Good job on Astana to keep Nibali in contention at this stage.

Big shame Sanchez lost a packet.

Aru arrived with the best of Astana.

That Vini colour has definitely got brighter.

    This picture amuses me:

It seems to show a controlled Wiggo, good aero position & powering along, whilst his team mates try desperately to hang on!
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

Think that's exactly what't happening, got to feel sorry for the rest of the team!

Always hard to tell with Wiggins, but I think he's really serious about this race. If anything, this silliness with Froome might have been good for his motivation.

    Good from wiggins

Sorry for the question but am quite new to cycling how come the second guy had the Italy colours and had them on his jersey to when thought they weren't suppose to wear national time trail colours

They can wear their National Colours in the event they won them in. So If they win the road race they can wear them on a normal stage, if they win the national TT then they can wear them in TT's and TTT's

I would agree... if it were a pan flat parcour, or they were going around in circles. Those bumps were causing a lot of people trouble. The rate at which teams were dropping riders was quite high for a such a "short" TTT

hmmm, As I said, I find it hard to believe that 3 or 4 teams (which happened to go toward the end) all had a 'mare of a ride. I suspect that something on the course changed. Sky did nt exactly have a flawless performance either.

Plus, if OPQS and OGE got to the first time check and realised that winning the stage was unlikely, there is no real reason to keep the hammer down for them. BMC are different but then BMC are a law unto themselves really...

A quick flick through the PTP predictions shows I'm not the only one who expected more from the other teams, esp Garmin. In terms of Cav and OPQS, I expected him to be in there doing his turn.

This might explain Pate's miraculous recovery, and the apparent capping of Knees' ambitions. Commentary suggested mechanicals. Anyone know what happened with Pate?

That photo of Cav reminds me of Leicester Lads comment about how, apart from when he's sprinting, Cav never looks like a pro cyclist.
