I am one step away from buying the Mavic Ksyrium SLR clincher wheel set. What are peoples views on these wheels. Would be great to have some feedback from people that have them or have used them. I'm getting them for a reasonable price.

Thanks

  • Look great, roll well. Exalith braking is superb. Would never pay RRP though.

Overpriced, Expensive to repair, Often long delivery periods for spares.

Brilliant wheels, light, strong and very stiff. Most dealers will haggle.

They should never need repairing unless you are huge or ride in a way that abuses your kit. There used to be delays on spokes for Mavic wheels but they have a good dealer network now and most stock spares. In 3 years of Mavic wheel ownership, I have never needed any repairs, nor have any of my Mavic wheel owning friends.

The SLR is a great wheel.

Had my Ksyrium SLs for nearly ten years now and they're still going, recommended. Ride sometimes a little harsh depending on road conditions, but overall very good. Light, reliable, strong imo. You can get spares for them but they can take a while to get hold of.

    I would buy these.

  • 'These are very light wheels and it really shows when heading uphill.

The Tracomp spokes create incredible lateral and drive stiffness meaning sharper responses to steering and especially acceleration. This sensation is most tangible on a steep climb out of the saddle but it helps whenever you’re putting a lot of torque through the drivetrain or making big steering inputs. Only the likes of Lightweight come close.

Braking is fantastic, the machined rims hauling your speed down reliably in all conditions. The tyres, with front- and rear-specific designs, are also brilliant. They have excellent cornering grip, so they descend as well as they climb'

FFS, something a little bit less of a salesman pitch?

Even if the above sales banter is all true my comments are equally valid.

In fact I would like to revise my first statement from overpriced to, stupendously over priced.
