Hi, I've decided its time to move on from my Claud Butler hybrid to reasonable first road bike. I have narrowed it down to three makes:

Ribble Sportive 7005
Merlin MALT-R
B'Twin Triban 5

They are all around the same price, c£600 which is my budget.

I would appreciate any views on these.

Thanks

Hugh

Simply going on the groupset the Merlin (tiagra)

Although you can choose tiagra for the ribble on their bikebuilder.

The triban gets really good reviews on here and £100 cheaper than the merlin.

So simply as a first bike I'd say go for the one with positive user reviews the triban and save the money for upgrades.

There was a thread on the 5 here
The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.
  • Triban 5 + a wheel upgrade. Decathlon do Mavic Aksiums for £140.

Take a look at the Mekk Pinerolo 1.5 available at Wiggle for £640. I got one a few weeks ago and not your run of the mill sportive bike but great fun.
  • The triban 5a is £429 with Sora

The triban 7 is £599 with Tiagra
    B'TWIN Triban 5A
    Ridgeback MX6
