Delay to Canyon Ultimate CF SLX Delivery

I ordered an Ultimate CF SLX back in January and was given a delivery estimate of CW18. That was this week and still no sign of the bike. UK Customer Services sent me an apologetic email explaining that they were having some sort of quality control issue with the first batch of 2013 frames and were therefore having to subject the second run to additional QC checks. They are unable/unwilling to tell me what the problem actually was and despite several emails cannot even give me a rough window for delivery. I don’t know if my bike is going to be another two weeks or another two months!

Is anyone else having the same problem with Canyon? Does anyone know the nature of the problem with the frames or how long the delay is? If it were not for the excellent reviews and the value for money I would have walked away and gone to a 'bigger' brand by now – is this perhaps a flaw with the Canyon business model…

I am in exactly the same boat as you mate. I too ordered in January, told week 18 and now they have told me week 22. I am not holding my breath.

  • I was told I'd receive my order in week 27, but was told delayed till week 29 which is now, have not heard anything from CANYON and they have not replied to my e mails :x

Welcome to the forum, you are aware the dates are estimated and Canyon have not taken any payment yet so you could buy elsewhere.

Addition QC checks sounds like a fair reason for a delay., you could ask them not to bother with the QC and take the bike as sold as seen.

It smacks of a lack of control. "Additional QC checks" suggests that they have had unexpected quality issues (I speak as a Quality director of neatly 10 years experience with big consumer product organisations) and aren't on top of them if they can't give a date. Personally I'd be taking my money and going elsewhere at this point.

+1 - It does smack of QC issues. I was all ready to order one before they started cracking, not good and all they seem to want to do is replace the frames every time. Damn shame, cos great value before the issues started.

They have got to sort out this cracking seat tube out. Very unefficient for a German company imo.

These "additional QC checks" are being quoted date back to May 2013.

Delays and lack of communication are commonplace with Canyon. I don't think that they need a special reason.

I'm experiencing similar problems with Rose Bikes at the moment.
My experience in dealing with German companies definitely hasn't met with my expectations.
It would seem to me that the British notion of customer service is streets ahead.

So? People are still getting problems with cracking seat tubes, so it's still relevant.

Yep I have seen your posts on the numerous threads about it

Well, you know, it's such a damn shame they've got such a great frame there, and people shouldn't be getting all these cracks and replacement frames, the product should be sorted out.

Yes but this thread isn't about the cracks. Or it wasn't until you mentioned it.

Canyon's poor customer service and communication exists outside of your issue.

I'd buy another from them though. :D

Sounds like after months and months of waiting, you ought to go somewhere else. I love the look of Canyon bikes, and i have just bought a frame from them, service was excellent with that, but i wouldnt be willing to wait that long for a bike, especially when missing summer
