Trimming weight off Saracen Tufftrax

Hi Folks, my 10yo is riding a Saracen tufftrax 2 on a small 26inch wheel and finding it heavy.
I am starting a project to trim down a few lbs, aiming for fork and wheels initially.
Could anyone advise a suitable air shock to replace the SR suntour. Happy to scour the ads for the right product, would need disc mounts as want to change brakes as well.
Any advice on wheels would be greatly appreciated,
hope you can help,
Niall

We need to know a bit more about the spec ie what type of headset and steerer size, brake type. Model year?0

It looks like the head tube is 100mm in length, the headset size is 1 1/8". The head angle is 70.
The current fork has 63mm of travel- can be viewed here

The bike spec is here- http://www.saracen.co.uk/bikes/2012/spo ... ftrax-mens
Brakes are currently v brakes so will require an upgrade- i have a set of shimano alvio cable disc brakes that i hope to use on a 160mm rotor, though would welcome suggestions of a value hydraulic brake/ wheel combo for the front initially.
Cheers in anticipation of advice, Niall0 -
Does the frame have disc brake mounts?
If so this wheelset is good value;

£150 for decent wheels and excellent brakes (and rotors) isn't too bad"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Although if the aim is to trim weight - you really need to weigh the parts you already have, no?"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Spec says handlebars are steel, that would be a quick win.0
