Archetype or Pacenti SL23?

Ok, so I am sold on a wider rim and going down the hand built route but was doing some digging and came across the Pacenti as an alternative to the Archetype which seem to be all the range currently. Anybody have any experience of them? They are £20 more than Archetypes so there would need to be a good reason to buy them over the Archetype

I have the Pacenti SL23 and love them ...i run them with 25mm Conti GP4000 and the ride is magic carpet ride like IMHO ...i had some deep section Planet X rims before with the same tyres and you could almost feel every small imperfection in the road but i guess the combination of the rims and handbuilt makes a big diffrence .Had mine built at Just Riding along fantastic service .0

Or the A 23, which are the same thing for half the price?
Or the HED Belgium which are the same thing but even more expensive?
I have never built the Pacenti... I'd say the one with the best finish among the 23 mm wide rims I have built is the HED, but it costs 109 per piece, which is a bit too much, I think.
The best looking is the Archetype by a long wayleft the forum March 20230 -
I only have direct experience of the Archetype, but my take would be:
The Pacenti on paper offers the better compromise of profile and weight so for pure performance it's likely better. It's not as nice looking though, even after the Archetype loses it's ano, and as it's pretty new it's also silly expensive in the UK. At the moment, I'd still choose the Archetype overall.
Ugo mentioned the A23 which is cheaper, but there have been a lot more reports of QC issues with them (on WW etc.) and I doubt they're as stiff, so you'd probably want a few more spokes.0 -

I have got the feeling it is always the same individual going around with the same old rat... there are enough A 23 in the country that if there was a problem it would be evident.
I build them fairly regularly and I have not had problems with them. Two rims returned for replacement, one because it was ran over by a car and took a saddle shape and another because it was ran over by a car and horribly scratched... both are members of this forum and both alive and well.
So my conclusion is with A 23 you are more likely to be ran over by a car... let's see if this becomes part of the general internet bullsxxtleft the forum March 20230 -
You are likely correct.0 -
Thanks fellas. Seems like archetype it is then.0

Are we 100% sure the Pacenti are not just rebadged Kinlin rims, in the same way Interloc (IRC) are? It seems to me too small a company to extrude aluminium... it is a massive investment in technology that only a few can afford... I don't think Pacenti is one of them, they don't even have a working website. If it is only a Sticker maker, than the obvious supplier would be Kinlinleft the forum March 20230

Could be re-badged kinlin but which of their rims has a 24mm profile?0

Ah OK, so Pacenti is simply the name of the line of rims, name after Kirk Pacenti, while the company is Bikelugs, if I understand correctly.
It has become difficult to discriminate between manufaturers and sticker-makers in this globalised worldleft the forum March 20230 -
I'm stuck between the same rims after a lot of deliberation! Think I will go with archetype simply because of lack of reviews on the sl23 and the extra cost. Look nice though.
Any thoughts on hope pro3 v dt Swiss 350 for hubs?0 -

Both good, assuming you are on Shimano, I would probably go for Hope
1) To buy British
2) You will never have problems sourcing spares and you probably won't need them either
However, if at some point you will go Campagnolo, then DT all the way, gives you the option to swap freehubsleft the forum March 20230 -
Thanks Ugo much appreciated. Also can't get the 350 in 24h for te front so that's decided. Is there much weight difference?
Anyone got any pics of a hope/archetype build? And thoughts on best colour combo?0 -
