Best shoes for numb feet?

Cycled into work this morning, and by mile ten, my right foot was like a block of wood. By the time I got to work after 40 miles and got my shoe off, my toes were white- like piece of paper white- and really quite painful. I've got some Lake shoes, which seem to fit well and some Sidas footbeds. Merino socks and Belgian booties haven't helped either. Has anyone else had this problem- and if so, come up with a solution? Other than hardening up a bit? I don't mind buying new shoes if it's going to get me some feeling in my feet when I ride...

Probably too tight. Try a bit less tension on the straps

Imposter is absolutely right. I had this problem last summer so I knew it couldn't be that my feet were getting cold, I loosened off the straps a little bit and haven't had the problem since.

Thanks for the tip guys, I'll give that a try. It's distracting to the point where I'm not enjoying the ride anymore...

I suffer from this too. Tried different shoes (some like boats so not too tight, changing cleat position, footbeds, lemond wedges. Its an annoyance.

Might not be anything to do with your shoes. I suffer from numbness in my left foot, but it's caused by my piriformis muscle irritating my sciatic nerve. Could be a circulation problem like Raynauds disease. Have you had a proper bike fit, it may show that one leg is slightly longer (or your hips are tilted) or some other imbalance which needs correcting. A slight movement of the cleat, either forwards/backwards or laterally may also help. Just don't go rushing out and buying a new pair of shoes until you've eliminated other possible causes!
  • I also have the same problem. I put it down to the cold but recently the weather has been good but still have numb feet. Shoes are wide Shimano r087's and I have them quite loose but still the problem persists....

When you say 'semm to fit well', what do you mean? When did you get the Lake's fitted? Over winter/colder and has it now started to happen as it is getting warmer.

As others have said, either loosen your straps off or you may need a wider fitting shoe. Lake used to have a few easy steps to do this. I say that as they have updated their website and now I can't find it.

To give you an example though. Bont said I needed a wide fitting; a deal came up on a standard pair and I thought I would try just in case. I moulded them and they were ok, a bit tight over the past few months, but over the last few weeks, I just have numb feet/toes... needless to say my new wide fitting ones turned up yesterday...
