1x10 Setup

Anyone any suggestions as to the ideal 1x10 setup for someone who is not that great at going up hills.
Currently running 2x10, 38-26 front and 36-11 rear.
Was thinking about a 32 front and running the same rear?
Thanks,
A

Well yes, unless you go to something like a 28T inner ring (off a Trecking type crankset), then 32T is as low as you can go at the front.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

A 32t chainring and 11-36t cassette works quite well for me, as does a 34t chainring with an 11-36t cassette. The 32t is obviously better for climbing but you might find yourself spinning out on road sections. If you need any less than a 32t, you really shouldn't be bothering with single ring unless it's XX1.
There is no ideal setup though, just what works.0 -
I've gone 1x9 with a 38t front and 11-34 rear. Very tough on short steep climbs. A 34t would be perfect, for me anyway.0

I run 1x9 on my HT, 36t up front and 11-32 on the back. I personally prefer to have more higher gears available than the lower ones. Even with that setup I find i'm in 8/9th gear on barely declining sections of trail.
With 1x10 and an 11-36 on the back, i think your minimum size front ring should be 34t. I think you will spin out too often with a 32t, or be in the highest gear on even small declines. Unless you really, really struggle with climbs go for the 34t.0 -
I've learnt to spin, so 1x9, 11-34 on a 32T front works for me, I can hold 25mph with that which is plenty fast enough!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
