Hi all,

This seems to be one of the more popular topics. I've narrowed my choices down to:

Carrera Kraken

Voodoo Hoodoo

Voodoo Bizango - If I can get it to under £500 with a sale + british cylcing 10% off! (The reason I put this in is because I like the idea of a 29er - was hoping the review on this site would be out by now :P )

Rockrider 8.1 - Apparently Halfords can get bikes in for the Cycle to Work Scheme but I don't know if they could get this in for under £500

I imagine a lot of you will be putting the Rockrider at the top of the list but if you could rank them in some order to help me pick should I be unable to get them all into my price range that would be great. Open to suggestions to bikes not on the list as long as they are under £500 (probably can get Halfords to get them in).

I doubt Halfords can get Decathlon bikes, and as the 29er seems to be wishful thinking, the Voodoo.

The Hoodoo is better than the Kraken and the Bizango is pretty much the Hoodoo 29er (which it coincidentally replaced). I know for a fact we can get any bikes from other suppliers e.g. Leisure Lakes, as I've had customers with bikes from them via the C2W scheme.

If you call the C2W guys with the Make, Model, and Frame size of a bike, they can try and locate one for you and get it sent to your nearest store if they can get hold of one. That has to be done through the C2W team, not through the Halfords stores.

As a rep for the C2W scheme in my area, send me a PM if you have any questions about it!

But Rockrider is Decathlons own brand bike....you won't get one through Halfords.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • I'm assuming that Halfords administer your scheme, as well as provide the bikes? Two things:

    - There are very few bikes that they can get, that are only sourced from a single supplier. So Planet X, Decathlon, Ribble, etc are unavailable to you.
    - Halfords C2W will not apply any discount, end of. BC membership won't work, nor any vouchers, or anything like that. If you check the small print you'll see this to be the case.

So the C2W scheme is run by: https://www.salary-extras.co.uk/
Bike Scheme, which is run in conjunction with Halfords stores, enables employees to go to any of their 460+ stores and choose exactly what bike and cycle safety accessories they want (subject to a maximum limit set by your company).

Plus, their Partner Independent Bike Shop network also allows employees to access virtually all bike brands available in the UK.

Is what it says when I'm logged in so I guess they buy the bike and deliver it to Halfords. I assume Halfords are happy to allow it so that they can get money for accessories?

Although I imagine they wouldn't be able to do me a deal on any bikes brought in specially.

Is the Rockrider 8.1 worth £100 more than the Hoodoo? Because that's what I work out the difference to be after all the tax deductions and paybacks are made.

Find out if you can get it first as they aren't sold through Halfrods or any 'Independant bike shop', my strong bet is no.
