Neck/shoulder pain

I've recently started riding a new bike which has about 3cm more drop to the handlebars (approx 7 cm) than my old one. After long rides I get a bit achey just below my neck/in between my shoulder blades.

Is it just case of adapting to the new position? Also, any good stretches/strengthening exercises?

The pain will lessen and eventually disappear the more you ride. When you say "long" what are we talking?

Over four hours. I've done 8 hour rides on my old bike and while I've had a bit of lower back discomfort, the shoulder/neck pain is a new one.

    it will lessen (probably)

Is there any way you can raise your handlebar height a bit so you can adapt to the new position in stages? i.e. flip the stem for a couple weeks then flip it again?

Having said that if you only get this after 4 hour rides that aint too bad at all
