Garmin question re following courses & recording activities

I have a Garmin 800 and today I went to Dorking and followed a course that I had created. All the ride was being recorded fine until I stopped for a break. I carried on my ride and went home and have only just now realised that it had stopped recording the activity from my break onwards. It was giving me directions for the rest of the ride just fine though.
Is it possible to follow course directions without data being recorded with the 800, or did mine mess up?
I've only recently got it so still trying to figure it out.
It's especially frustrating because I had a really good ride up leith hill and would liked to have looked at my stats.

Did you press the "Stop" button when you had your break?Summer - Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 9.0 Team

If you stopped it, or if it powered off during your break, you would have needed to press the start button again. I think we've all lost logged miles because of this at some time...
When you finish the ride, hold the left button for a few seconds to finalise the recording of that ride.
I've written a bunch of articles to help people get to grips with the edge 800.

I don't remember stopping it but it is possible... I'm so annoyed as leith hill was the only part I really wanted to record and I missed it!
Thanks for the link Alan, your website has been a godsend with regards to getting the hang of the 800. I already have it bookmarked Nice cycling jersey btw!0 -
I've done it as well the dreaded stop button and i've also had bad data ONCE needed a full factory wipe to cure it

Thank you, on both points.
My favourite jersey, the good ol' Grateful Dead. Kind of sums up how I feel at the top of big climbs!Alan
