Hi all newbie here needs advice as to what bike to get,
Basically I'm looking for my first bike so I can go out with the kids, mainly on the road but also tracks but nothing to serious, ive been down to halfords and seen carrera crossfire range which look decent and have almost brought it twice, but the inept donkeys that serve you in there have put me off ! So I popped down to the shop where we had our bikes from when I was a kid, I knew they stocked Raleigh but now they stock the Claude butler range,
So my question is, is Claude butler any good I've heard it is but not really sure ?
Also are the carrera any good ?
My budget is under £300
Thanks guys

Have you decided whether you want a road bike or a hybrid? The Carrera you mention is a hybrid, but I reckon that a lot of people who buy them end up buying a road bike a year or two down the line. It depends on how much off-road cycling you expect to do, I suppose (though a road bike should be fine for most canal towpaths, etc.). The road bike that gets the best reviews around the £300 is the B'Twin Triban 3.0
