Watching Cycling-old Astra Satellite

Just looking at getting moved in to a new flat and wasn't looking at getting digital satellite. I used to have the old Astra Satellite (the old round satellite dish) in my old place some years ago. Is this Satellite still going and is Eurosport (english) still running? The main of the channels were German so lots of Oompah bands and english tv was only Space Night and The Joy of Painting; good after a few pints.

German tv was good for the Tour of Switz and Romandy.

Has anyone still got this running??

Thanks :)

The dish is still of use but you might want to re-point to Hotbird 19.2E as that is where RAI is. Not sure what is left, of interest to cycling fans, on Astra - think Eurosport but only with German language.

Sorry to come in behind the response.

Not much "free" cycling left on 19E.
DSF change name and no longer show Romandie or Swiss.
There's German Eurosport alright, but only 1 and in German.
The odd race is live on hr fersehen, such as Frankfurt on Wednesday.

I'd agree; go for Hotbird 13E and get Rai Sport 2.
They had Romandie live, 2-one day Italian races over
the weekend, 4 hours of Frankfurt on Wednesday and I hear
they have a bit of a race starting, next weekend!

Sorry, got my 'degrees East of South' wrong there, is of course 13 not 19.2
Yup, for a single channel RAI (Sport 2 in the main) is about the best source for cycling - they do miss some races that Eurosport show and now that Sky show, but since all it costs is a dish, recevier and cable and then no on-going costs, it's worth it IMHO if you don't want to lay for SKY.
Very occasionally they've switched, mid-race, from showing on 1 channel to another, eg Sport 2 to RAI 3, which for my receiver, means I have to be present to manually switch channels as the timer function on the box isn't active (firmware issue ?) but for the big 1 day races and the GTs their coverage is very good, plus smaller Italian races nornally get 1 - 2 hours, live and/or later transmission. Also they regularly have a race round-up program, Radiocorsa, which picks up recent mens and womens races and some Grand Fondo's too plus big Italian races sometimes get decent previews.
Just checked : schedule shows RAI Sport 1 as the channel for the Giro, preview program/presentation Saturday then the go full-on with pre / live / post programs each day.

The old German analogue signals (where I used watch) were stopped last year.

Ive got a decent satellite set up and get most of my cycling fix from 19.2 on the German Eurosport (Digital satellite, as the old English commentary one on analogue stopped last year).

RAI Sport on 13.0e is great too as mentioned, just that I find there are more sports on German Eurosport other than cycling that I can watch, over whats on RAI.

Very easy to set up, shouldn't cost you much more than £50, you could buy the full dish, cables and box as a bundle from the likes of eBay or B&Q.

When the analogue signal went off last year I bought a cheap digital box (£50 from Maplin) and now have about 700 channels of Eurotack. About half is locked, but I've watched some cycling on Italian and Austrian channels, when there is a race on I just flick through the channels, and sometimes I'm lucky. There is also a fair bit on Swiss free to air TV, but that comes through the cable rather than satellite.
