Beginner - 100km, how long ?

I yesterday completed the Manchester 100km in just over 5 hours on a Trek 29er
I am 46 and weigh 17st and have been riding regularly for the past 4 months (about 30 miles a week) after returning to cycling on a weekend leisure ride basis late in 2012 after about 15-20 years off a biker completely.
My advice would be to clock up regular 10+ mile trips to get your body adjusted to the stresses and strains of being in the saddle for at least of an hour at a time and then gradually increase week on week. Work on climbs, this is something I did not do and paid for it on more than one occassion due to bad gear selection or not carrying speed from the previous descent. Then just go for it at a good steady pace (I averaged around 12 mph)0
