Saw a Colnago Master with Record today at an event - WOW. It's definitely the most beautiful bike I've ever seen!

My faces were roughly like this:

8) 8) :| :o:):D  :D:cry:

Road - Dolan Preffisio
MTB - On-One Inbred

I have no idea what's going on here.

Sorry, but the wheels don't quite look right, IMHO.
But I would say that, wouldn't I?

I'm half way through my 30th Anniversary Edition build.

AO11 (red & white) with shiny alloy groupset/finishing kit and a nice pair of handbuilt wheels.

I think it's going to look quite nice :)

You and me both, I too have the red AD11 in 55. Can I be a bit nosey...what kit are you going for on yours?

I'm going for Campag Athena 11 Alloy Gruppo, with a polished silver Ambrosio Excellight and Royce hub wheelset (probably going for the tan-wall Veloflex Master tyres). I was lucky enough to be able to swap out the threadless Precisa forks for some threaded NOS ones, so have a pair of Cinelli Giro D'Italia HBs and the 1A stem to match. Just purchased a lovely white San Marco Rolls Ti leather saddle and a Colnago pantographed aero seatpost.

Hoping to have it rideable by late summer, overtime permitting!

    Cheers

I've gone for Veloce because I wanted to stay 10 speed. I already have it on another bike and it's perfectly decent kit.

Bars, stem and seatpost are all Ritchey Classic. Wheels are a pair of handbuilt Open Pro on Record hubs which I already have. The hubs are black, unfortunately, but you can't win them all.

    Happy riding

edited to add: what colour bar tape are you going for? I usually use black but I think black will be a bit dead on this bike. Red is probably too...red. So I was thinking - white?

Going silver and white all the way through - white Rolls and white Fizik MIcrotex as I find stays white...that said, I like the look of this, very "blingy" like the Master! http://www.cinelli.it/site/index.php/prodotti?page=shop.product_details&flypage=accessoriflypage.tpl&product_id=296&category_id=2&sub=15

Look forward to seeing the photo's of your built up bike, good luck!

Oh you! You should know me well enough by now that of course I can argue with that!

Let me see - if I had a Master it would have a quill stem and DT shifters; the STi shifters and aheadset just look clunky on a bike like that. Don't like deep rim wheels on any bike let alone one with slim frame tubes and the carbon crankset looks odd and why does it have a long cage rear mech?! Sorry, but those straight forks just look like they've bent at the crown to me and sacrilege of sacrilege, red isn't a favourite colour of mine on a bike! If it was mine, all barring the frame, seatpost and brakes would be in the classifieds (and that includes the fork)!

It's still a nice bike mind.......

I hate to disappoint!! I just prefer classic looking frames to be kitted in classic style. Period looking frames with modern kit make my head hurt but I can see the appeal!

I have two passions in Life (Aside from Wife and Daughter) which when I was a richer man (financially) I was able to indulge.

Now life and responsibilities have changed, I have promised myself that for my 50 th some way off (but not that far) I was going to start saving so I could either have a Omega Coaxial 8500 movement series watch (The best and last movement designed by Dr George Daniels / IMO the best watch maker) before his passing in 2011.
Or a Colnago Master with full record and handbuilts.
Your post has just nudged it back in favour of the Colnago. Please put up Pics when finished

Instead of the Colnago get yourself a Cloumbus Spirit for lugs custom frame with 73 degree seat tube and head tube,
and have the geometry set up for you. For a starter the chainstays on the Master are short and do not change as the frame increases in size, the lugs are sourced from Taiwan, lord knows what steel they use now. Feather Cycles perhaps?

Love Ricky Feather's stuff and a 953 custom build would be a serious contendor.

My understanding was that the C59 and the Master were the only Colnagos still produced entirely in Cambiago
My love of cycling really developed in the early 80's and I ve always had an irrational love for Colnagos, I think the
Crazy Deco paint jobs of the 90's and the Radobank stuff always did it for me, Although obviously any Master would
Have to be Saroni red and very understated.

I like the idea of spending the next couple of years sourcing NOS Campag Record in Steel/ Titanium and maybe even some Original Deltas, The wife and I holiday in Italy and Sicily a couple of times a year, gives me an excuse to look round bike shops in Italy.

Very nice. Some good durable and useable components there.

If I ever get the opportunity mine will be more of a show pony for dry Sundays (Stupid I know)

But looking at the others you've got in your tag line then it looks like you've got plenty of choice.

Mine has a modern kick, the more I ride it the more I fall in love with it, not the fastest compared to my C59's but just so chilled: -

    master_piu_1b.jpg

    viewtopic.php?f=40044&t=12917322

I enjoy riding it so much that I'm going to switch the Athena 11S groupset to 11s Super Record, I have a 2010 Groupset coming off my 150th C59 as I managed to get a 2012 for it, but can't find a 2010 set of SR Cranks for it.

For chilled rides that are just lazy rolling days, the luxury of steel is brilliant.

BTW Colnago does now use Far Eastern Columbus tubing, whereas originally it was from Italy, mine was built in 1991 so it should be Italian tubing, all Masters are still built in the basement of his home which is adjacent to his factory, similarly the only frames built in the far east are the M10, CX-1 and CLX3.0 all built by Giant but to Colnago's spec and having owned a CX-1 can vouch for the quality and build of the frame.

    Very sexy. Nice build.

Sorry Tim W. I sold a pair of Delta brakes on e-bay, perfect condition.

I'd love a C40 - I could pretend to be Museeuw. I'd also love a Colnago Ferrari - saw one at the Etape. Nearly nicked it.

You shouldn't mention those abominations in this thread! I saw a couple of the Colnago Ferrari MTBs at the Ferrari store in Milan. Poor spec, crackpot price, garish finish. I can understand why Ernesto did this but I hope he occasionally wakes up in a cold sweat because of it!
