My girlfriends in the market for a new bike but won't spend more the £300.

What she really wants it for is some sprint triathlons she's entered but she also want it to ride to work and to go to trail centres with me. She competent on red routes and will happily ride around sherwood pines and whinlatter.

I think she's after something more xc orientated that would be okay for 14km rides on roads as well as offroad.

I was thinking she's be okay just to get a change of tyres for road stuff.

Any ideas? I was looking at specialised but I'm sure she can get more for her money.

Thanks for the help you two. I had a look at the RR 5.3 but there's only limited size availability online.

Does anyone have an opinion on the Carerra Vegeance? It's currently £299 from halfords knocked down from £450. It looks like a good deal to me!

Spec copy and pasted from website:

    Lightweight 6061 alloy frame
Suntour XCM-V3 forks with 100mm travel
SRAM 24-speed gearing with SRAM X4 rear mech

Alloy double wall rims with 26" x 2.10" Kenda tyres
    SRAM chainset

Actually just looked at the RR5.3 and saw the link was to an older version which has limited size rangers. There's a newer one for £329 with more size choices.

The Carrera is OK< never worth what they claim the RRP is, the price is good, but don't look on it as a saving!
