Just bought this for £200. Think it's a 2009 model (correct me if I'm wrong). Needs pedals, grips, a good clean and possibly a service.

Give it a quick clean and tarted it up for now. Probably give it a service next weekend.

Cleaned chain and cassette. Changed crank arms and chainrings. Also some red jockey wheels and chainring bolts. Was going to change the cables but they seemed fine, so I just indexed the gears. Now she's ready to get muddy :D

Very much has echo's of the (Merida built) Carrera Banshee, the rear triangle looks identical (has the later design to stop the drive side chain stay snapping), The Banshee even comes with fiveD cranks and Formula wheels (forget the Alex sticker that's a Formula rim!), so for £200 that's a darn good price as Banshee's go for about £300 and don't have Fox forks.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

The cranks are off an old cape wrath I had. The Merida came with fsa cranks which the previous owner decided to paint. Ain't had a chance to ride it properly yet, just to and from work one day last week to see if the gears were changing ok.

Basically you got a set of Fox forks with a free bike attached. How does it ride I almost bought one of the Meridas a few years back but the demo bike I tried was set up horribly and it was a Pig on roller skates.

Rides well. Being only 5ft 5in I was stretching over the bars a bit. With the shorter (45mm) stem, its a lot more comfortable. Although I ain't taken it offroad yet with the new stem fitted.

May be worth an inline seatpost as well.....or just sliding the saddle forward to it's limit.

No idea what year banshee you're referring to, but the rear triangle on my 2008 is completely different, plus it has truvativ blaze cranks and mavic rims!

The Banshee X (Circa same age as yours but with Epicon/Bomber suspension and other bits I mentioned in fact my mates came with that same crankset as well (as I bought it off him!)), the chain and seat stays look identical - and all Banshee's are the same, the top rocker link the same funtional shape but styled differently.

Note the dropping of the driveside stay, the cast section at the front (that fixed the snapping issue), the dropout form is slightly different with hindsight.

Enlighten me on how you 'indexed the gears' please. I've just bought as new to me Marin and it occasionally jumps out of the second cog on the rear cassette. I was planning to tighten/slacken the cable via the adjusters to address as this normally fixes in my experience but I'm always open to new tricks/tweaks!

Exactly that. If it's skippng out of gear, it could be a few things. I serviced my mates claud butler, which had the same problem. Changed cables, straightened rear mech hanger. Turned out the jockey wheels were shot

Only skipping in the second sprocket of the rear cassette. Rest of gears are smooth as. Bit of an odd one really. Will tension the cables a smidge and see if that resolves the issue. Failing that I'll avoid 2nd gear untilI can work it out!!
