Kudos to you 2-dayers. I thought about you towards the end of each of my 4-day rides just trying to imagine what it would be like to be doing the same distance again - Chapeau in the biggest possible way.

I was happy to finish 32nd ex 166 of the 4-day soloists (and I really rode solo). It was also my 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th century ride.

I too have a tight Achilles so I can't imagine how you guys feel.

The funny thing was I did London to Cambridge last Friday night (starting at 11.30pm) - only 63 miles. I finished with the fastest time with a margin of 51 minutes over 2nd place - it felt like a sprint despite the fact it pi$$ed down with rain the whole ride

Well I got back on the bike for the first time today. Just the usual commute of around about 15 miles each way, but it hurt. I felt like I was riding on empty and my achilles is still sore. I think I might have to take it easy this week too! I'm amazed how long the recovery is taking...

I'd also like to second rogers and say well done to all those who continued beyond midnight. I;m sure that took some fortitude. I was well and truly ready to finish by the time I got to Edinburgh and those extra hours in the saddle must have hurt.

It was also my 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th century ride.

Now that is impressive stuff! Well done!
  • Glad to see plenty of positives on here, perhaps the few minor issues I encountered shouldn't overshadow the massive amount of work put in to organise such an event. My issues were with the limited amount of food at most pit stops, I would have gladly paid for better fare, the lack of shops/garages open on the Sunday evening, the last pit stop being a few miles further than stated, hence missing the cut off by a few minutes ( massive thanks to the Brummy cycle therapy chap for bringing out food- life saver!). I'm sure next year will be so much better. I did thoroughly enjoy the event, though. Thanks.
P.S that could well have been me, Rodgers! I started cycling 2 years ago at 42yo and rode my first century about 2 months ago. I just wish I had started cycling many years ago.

There's a write up on the event in the latest Cycling Plus (just got mine in the post today)
