Boardman FS chainstay / tyre clearance?

Hi all
First post here, so be gentle with me!
Just getting back into mountain biking. (Got my first in 1985 but haven't ridden for a good few years now).
I recently picked up a second hand (ridden 10 miles) Boardman FS Team. Seems very well made and great value considering I paid £700. I noticed that the clearance between the chainstay and tyre is very tight. It has the original Conti Mountain King 2.2s. The small 'pips' on the treads are still there and they rub the left stay (just). If I get any mud in there is will clog solid.
Anyone else had this issue?
Cheers

Boardmans do tend to be a bit 'racing snake' at the rear, so yes, most people move down a bit on size, Conti's tend to come up a bit big anyway....Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Hi
Thnaks for the reply.
I was considering putting a set of Nobby Nics or possibly the new Mountian King IIs. DO the Schwable tyres come up narrower for a given size?

Tis pretty close to be sure. I'm still destroying the original mountain kings on mine but I definately won't be going any bigger than 2.2s0

Original MK 2's were fine on my FS Team, then went to 2.1 Panaracer Fire XC Pro's from my old hardtail which are also fine. Then bought some 2.2 Bontrager XR4's but the the back was a complete no no, the wheel wouldnt even turn with it on. So now I have an XR4 on the front and an XC Pro on the back!2012 Boardman FS Team

I put 2.2 rubber queens on my boardman hardtail pro and they rubbed if I put more than 35 psi in them. was pished off as I like the rubber queens so went back to Halfords and noticed that the rubber queens on shelf were narrower than some of the others. bought 2 new ones and they fit great. both were marked up as 2.2s but clearly different width. measured both and first lot are 2.4 and new ones are 2.2. wrongly printed I think.0
