Comedy river crash

Well, it all started off in good faith, im on a personal fitness drive and through road and spin im trying to drop a few kilo so have been going at it like a trojan.
I set off from home at around 4.30pm and intended to do a 5km ride to screwfix and back to collect some glasses but I was enjoying the ride and decided on doing a few more km and ended up doing a 30km run.

Anyway, 11km from home I was riding past alcester castle and there was a shallow river (around 10" deep and 60ft wide) so I slowed down and thought I would be able to make it no problem, all was good until I was half way through and hit a pothole and fell  I went ar5e over tip with the wheels pointing to the moon and my whole body submerged in the river. Whats worse is that I was using the GoPro so have it all on video :)

Anyway, the bike is fine, im ok but my iphone is no longer with us. The wife and kids are still laughing downstairs

Well at least your OK & well enough to tell us about it.

Glad to hear that your trainings going well & your carrying on with it.

As others have said think we might need to see the video.

Whats up with the iPhone cant you dry it out?
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

Did the frame bag act as a buoyancy aid and keep you afloat :)

Somewhat OT, but I am firmly of the belief that there are very few sphere of human endeavor that can't be reduced to utter comedy by speeding up and adding a bit of Yacketty Sax.

Very brave to admit it, and even braver to post the video.

That definitely made me chuckle. Reminded me of a few fords in the New Forest where I certainly wobbled. I wonder if aero wheels give the current a lot more to push against? But hitting a pothole, or skidding on submerged weedy stuff, could happen any where.

    Good luck next time!

looked like a close call past that van early doors. take care on those roads they look very narrow.

Chapeau for being a good sport.

I know Coughton Ford to well, and you will not be the last person to do that.....although not that many would have it on film.

Ive woke up with a real sore shoulder :) I didnt realise I had landed so hard but its nothing serious. The wierd thing is, ive had the GoPro for a few weeks now and this was the first time ive used it so kinda lucky in a way as its always fun to see comedy fails, even if it is of myself ;)

Ill be using it again on every trip as even the van earlier wasnt the closest call I had, there were several drivers who I could hear behind me who all of a sudden sped up very quickly and passed me at way less than an arms reach.
Im loving it though, ive got a "little" bit of fitness now so feel more comfortable on the bike and so am taking more things in, wildlife that I never see as I drive them roads normally etc.

On the plus side I have seen things like that happen whilst out on MTB's before so safe to say you not the only one.

Glad your OK & the shoulder will get better soon just give it some rest & possibly an ice pack.

reminds me of christmas eve, I was on my way home from work and came to a flooded section of the road, was going through it carefully and the water was about half way up the wheel. then a 4x4 came the other way and hadnt seen the flood, hit it at about 50 mphish (the 4x4 not me!!) and the wave it created knocked me clean off into the flood! was a nice early christmas present!

    no film unfortunately!

Great video. Definitely an Oscar nomination for best sound track. How's the iPhone? Tried putting it in a bag of rice yet? That will often resurrect them but it can take a few days for the rice to suck all the water out.
