Hello everyone :)

I'm new to the world of forums and this is my first post here :D

So basically I've decided to take advantage of the Cycle2Work scheme and use it to get myself a road bike, but I'm torn between the Specialized Allez Elite & Giants Defy 1... Any facts and opinions on both will be most welcome. I'm not sure whether to get a 58cm or 60cm frame!? I'm 6ft 1... 6ft 2ish. I used to cycle a lot during my later teens/early 20's, so riding a bike is not totally alien to me.

Many thanks

Elliot

Both great bikes, the Defy has won several Best Bike awards in Cycling+

Go for the bike that makes you smile the most, the one you like. Go to the bike shops and use their expert advice on the size. They should have a turbo trainer in store so that you can sit on them and pedal for 20 minutes to see which fits you. Specialised do test bikes that you can use for a day to ride, the Giant dealer might do something similar if you ask for a test ride.

If you are buying on-line then make sure they have a good returns/exchange policy. Wiggle for example offer a 30 day trial period where you can return the bike if you chose the wrong size.

I still have my Specialized Allez, I'm 6ft and have a 56cm frame. 60cm will surely be too big.
  • I've just been through what your going through I like specialized but everybody seems to have them so semi took that out my list, I like the defy an was tempted but I then see a Scott speedster 20 comes with shimano 105 like the defy as well as carbon/alloy seat post and fork and internal cabling, it arrived today an looks nice I went for a quich ride an it feels ok to but it was only a quick ride
