I run an app on my fone called My tracks and then upload it to ridewithgps for a fuller reading of a ride I've done, however, the figures aren't always the same.
For example I did a 50miler at the weekend and on the fone app it had Elevation gain of 3322ft but when uploaded to ridewithgps it said elevation was -4692 +4863.
So did I climb 4860 ish ft or did I climb just 3322ft ish ???
In other waords, how do I know which one is the more accurate ?

Elevation data with GPS is even worse, again to quote Garmin "It is not uncommon for satellite heights to be off from map elevations by +/- 400 ft." And Strava say "Since elevation data derived from a GPS signal is fairly inaccurate, Strava automatically corrects elevation derived from a GPS source by consulting elevation databases to determine the elevation at each point in the activity."
So ignore any elevation data you get from a mobile phone. If you upload to a web site that provides elevation correction then you will get a closer figure. Or as Gethinceri suggested, meet the OS maps out and count the contour lines.Summer - Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 9.0 Team
