What bike would you buy up to £6000 and why??

Hi All,
After being involved in a cycling accident with some nasty injuries, I will be receiving a decent amount of compensation from a blind van drivers insurance company.
My previous bike was a Cannondale SuperSix 105 so clearly any of the below will be a decent upgrade. I am open to Shimano or SRAM groupsets but am most keen on the weight of the 2013 SRAM Red.
Just after people opinions on bikes around the £6k mark but I can be flexable on price. I have a few that I'm leaning towards such as the Scott Foil 10, SuperSix Evo Team, Focus Izalco Team SL 1.0
Anyone own one of these bikes that can advise on the pros/cons?
If you were spending that much money, what would you buy and why?? I will obviously ride as many different bikes as possible before handing over that kind of cash
Many Thanks
Mick

I fell out of love with my £6K bike and feel it was the biggest mistake spending that much. I stripped it down and replaced the frame that cost a third of the price. The new one feels so much more suited to me.
My problem is, I went into the shop for one bike and got talked into another. At first i felt like i had to love it and it was the best thing ever, but really I didnt get on with it.
My advice is be very careful, and go for the one YOU want, bikes lose so much money, I will end up losing around £700-800 (on the frame) when I sell it. :evil:0 -
Depends what you want to do and get out of an expensive bike. Are you going to race with it, do you want it because its nice to have nice things. (Nothing wrong with that by the way).
If it was me I would consider buying more than one bike. Don't know what you already have, but I won't ride my £5k bike in the winter so I have a winter bike as well, and then there is the need for a hard tail and full sus mountain bike, and then a cross bike, and maybe a single speed.
If I had six grand in my pocket I would but a decent road bike for £3.5 ish and then invest in either a cross bike or a full sus with the change...... always nice to have options and mix up the riding.0 -
I agree that having a nice winter bike (maybe ti) and a summer bike is good idea. If you do spend 4k or more on a road bike, I'd want something with heritage like a Look or something Italian.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0

I have bikes at this value, but oddly none on your shortlist !
One thing I have found is that at this price point I get a lot of enjoyment out of sourcing each component rather than going for a ready built bike. It doesn't necessarily mean the final build strays far from what is available in pre-built form, but I enjoy the process of choosing the components and assembling the thing.

I will be using a Cannondale CAAD10 as a winter work horse and the new bike would be the 'Summer Ride'.
I do not intend on racing on it any time soon but wouldn't rule it out in the future.
I want an all round bike that is light, has aero wheels if possible and is reasonably comfortable for group and solo rides between 20-100+ miles.
I like the idea of building the bike from scratch and may have a look into doing that.
As much as I'd like a decent MTB, I wouldn't have the room to store that along with the two road bikes plus the Mrs would get the hump :roll:0 -

I was in the same position as you OP. Ended up getting a bike fit, buying a top-end Wilier frame, Super Record groupset, ace wheels and loads of carbon bits separately, then built my dream machine and managed to build a Colnago Master too the same way. So don’t buy an off the peg bike that costs £6k. You get more bang for your buck if you build it up - and build it up from your fit specs.0

The Foil Premium is a Di2 only frameset. The OP would have to find either a Team or a 10 to run SRAM Red.English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0 -

If you like your CAAD10, or the geometry that is, and you liked the SuperSix how about a SuperSix Evo?
You can get a decent one for £4k or £5k and pocket the rest for a holiday. This looks like amazing value if its your size http://www.westbrookcycles.co.uk/bikes- ... 12-p210736
If not you can always buy the frame and get what you want though http://www.westbrookcycles.co.uk/frames ... 13-p214134

Frame bought from a place in Belgium with about £1100 off rrp :-), SR purchased from Comtat when they were practically giving them away, Racing Zeros in a Winstanleys sale, bits sourced in sales on the net. The Zipps came earlier this year.0 -
I realise that some of the above was lucky purchases and a bit of buying a selling but it still shows what you can get for less than £6k and not buying off the peg.
[edit] And having a bike fit first so you can build off the specs and not really having to worry about trying bikes out/being limited to what they stock.0 -

Thanks for all the replies and the links guys. I'm a fan of the SuperSix and the Evo seems like the obvious choice as I know the bike fits me very well but I just fancied a change.
I'm not ruling out the Evo frame and the 2012 one from Westbrook cycles is a bargain, as is the 4.9kg version that was almost £9k and is now £5k.
I think I'll have to get out and test a few frames and group sets and go from there. Once I have a better idea of what I'm after, I may buy the frame set and build her to my own spec.
With almost every bike I look at, there's something that I'd want to change so I guess it makes sense to build from scratch.0 -
