New bike; hybrid?

I'm thinking of getting a new bike but quite fancy a hybrid. Nothing too flash and only looking to spend 2-300 quid. Ideally I want a rigid frame, MTB gearing or thereabouts and preferably around the 12kg weight. Is there such a bike out there or am I looking at second hand. Suggestions please.

What type of hybrid? They vary a lot. Suspesnion? Discs?

Nope, no suspension required and I'm happy with v brakes too. A light bike with gearing for going up hills is the aim.

Road hills. Off road hills, rough hills, smooth hills?

Road hills and very light off road paths like gravel tracks.

It would be but the gearing isn't as low as would like (no granny ring etc).

I would buy an MTB like a Rockrider 5.3/5.2 then fit a rigid fork and slicker tyres.

Buy one with a triple like mine and a rear cassette in 11- 28 flavour , it'll get you up any hills legs permitting , have a look at boardmans range they do a road bike starting at £300 ish
