Whats wrong with other cyclists

I was at Chicksands on Sunday, and while I was in the car park, a group of roadies came past and one shouted "F@#cking downhillers"!
Nobody was in the way. What have we done wrong?

I wouldn't let it bother you. There will always be those pedantic groups of people who think they're superior, have a right to be rude... down-right a#@eholes, whatever... It doesn't represent the other 99.9% of the people who take part in that particular sport.
  • Were they wearing full sky kit?

Maybe his wife just left him for a bloke on a mtb, he saw you and felt instantly inferior

Perhaps hes somewhat vexed regarding Internet forums and the bullshit thats included with them at times

No wait, Gubber is correct.. He must have an inadequate WINKLE WOO WOO WEE WEE WAH HO. Why dident i think of that?

Jokes aside.. The guy is just being a b****. Tell him you ride both ways and let him get his already tight under whatevers in even more of a twist

Jokes aside.. (really) Dont let his outburst ruin your ride out. He does not know you so dont worry about it

@ing way, no one was in his way or on his side of the road.

I'm always amazed with people like this and cyclist who can't be bothered to say Hi when riding past either!

Enjoy yourself on your bike & dont expect certain things from other riders and dont judge them if you dont get it.. Seems easy enough

Think of it like this - He's wearing thin lycra and stupid clown shoes whereas you re in a full face lid, neck brace, body armour and knee pads with proper shoes on...

Who would you put your money on?

    :P

On an Audax? Surely not?? Well I hope he took his pipe out before saying it :)

I spend so much time smiling, waving and saying hi to everyone on a bike whatever their orientation that I must compensate for the occasional tete de Richard... Or perhaps people just think I'm weird

There are people out there with big dicks that are arrogant too. The guy I know is even a pretty good driver but hes a police officer. I can tell he is well hung by the size of the lump on his shoulders.

Was a bit shocked when he replied well you're a f***in idiot then an walked away!

    This.

Manners cost nothing, even if you're too puffed to say hi, at least acknowledge other riders politely. I ride a lot around Wiltshire, which is very friendly place most of the time. I always say hello, or at least acknowledge all riders I see, whatever bike they are on.

It seems those with decent bikes and/or wearing team or club kit don't even have the common decency to return the gesture. I get more love from MTB'ers than roadies and it's annoying. It has even put me off joining a club here.

What did he think he was there for?

Maybe he would have been more agreeable if you had said you were looking forward to free wheeling down the other side shouting weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

To be honest, I saw a dude kitted out in his London Dynamo kit this morning and didnt really feel like acknowledging him because I felt he would probably ignore me and act like he was too good for me so I left it.

I ride past a popular MTB decamp spot, and always say hello when passing on my road bike. I'd say there the split is roughly:

50% cheery hello, often with a wave
    40% surprised non comital grunt
    10% ignore

Roadies don't count MTBers as cyclists, so in 99.99% of cases they are treated just as pedestrians who dress like skateboarders...which may well mean that any abuse is well deserved come to think about it!

I'm pretty open minded & treat MTBers as cyclist though, albeit cyclists who are too scared to ride on the road.

F***** idiots who don't give way properly at roundabouts. (i.e. to traffic coming from your right)

Yes I'm talking to *you* if you're that idiot on the mountainbike who, when he *did* finally decide to stop in Sophia Gardens in Cardiff this morning, it was right in my path as I was approaching at speed.

I expect this shit from car but cyclists should know better. Grrr.

If you wear big socks and/or team sky kit, I won't wave or nod.

That's not strictly true as a lot of roadies have come from MTB's, myself included!

I was out with a friend on Sunday morning and we kept catching a bloke on a Pinarello wearing a team Sky jersey, every time we got near him he would accelerate away. the third time this happened I went with him and as i rode up behind him he swung to the right hand side of the road and glared at me! I went past an said 'morning' only to be ignored apart from receiving another glare. this went on for a few miles until we went different ways, not sure what his problem was but I've never come across that kind of attitude from anyone whilst out on my bike.
As it's been said before on this thread, there are idiot's on every form of transport!

I don't worry about whart others say or do while out on the bike. as a mtb er and a roadie, I chat to all, and acknowledge all. Some reply some don't.

Mind you I do find its rare hat cows and sheep acknowledge you, when you stop to have a little chat to them

All I can conclude from this thread is that I need to buy a team sky kit, a pink bell and hoon it around not waving at anyone, leaving a trail of angry people in my wake...

Ideally whilst riding a downhill MTB up Whitedown Lane shouting "I love Lance!".
