Hi there,

I'm very new to mountain biking (or biking in general) and am starting to explore as I go for longer rides. I got pretty lost recently, and started to wonder about GPS/SatNav sytems for bikes. These seem a bit out of my price range at the moment (as I progress it may be an option) but for now, I've dug out my old Etrex Venture HC, which I used to have for mappping water courses.

Now its pretty old, and none too fancy, but I wondered could it be used as a GPS for a bike?

If so, how? and has anyone already done this?

Sure, I use mine all the time for this.

You can buy the handlebar mount. Set a way point at the start of the ride then use the "Goto waypoint" feature to navigate back.

You can use Mapsource Topo or Memory Map to upload a route and the follow it.

You can just go get lost, then pull out the GPS and a map and use the grid ref to find where you are.

    Have fun!
