Front Mech

I need a cheap front mech for a old Revolution Cuillin. It has a triple crankset with the largest chainring is a 42. It has a 27.something seatpost.
Would this: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=45322 would be Ok? (The 31.8 one). (I think the circumference of the seattube is about 100mm, so 31.8 sounds like the right diameter).
Bit confused as it seems to indicate that it works with 44 and 48 tooth outer chainrings. Does this mean it doesn't work with the 42?)

Also need to work out band position (top swing/bottom swing or high/low clamp) and cable pull (top/bottom).0

EDIT:
Ok, so it is top swing. (As the cable comes from the top). So in other words, it won't work because it is top pull...
The first water bottle bolt is about 7cm above the top of the cranks. The current mech (which I have no idea if it is the right one) looks like it is top swing. No suspension stuff so it could probably take either.0 -
Ok. After a quick bit of reading I have found one that should work. Cheers for your help.
EDIT: To double check:
Based on the extra information (Top Pull, Conventional Swing), would this work? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=12580
Just checking as I have no idea what "DUAL SIS front index shifting" means.0 -
Swing is different to pull. The one you looked at is bottom swing (conventional) - it pivots below the clamp.
This is a top swing - pivot is above/level with the clamp.

Most are dual pull - cable can come from the top or bottom.
But the one you looked at won't fit because the clamp is 34.9 - too big if you are looking for 31.8.
Many come with shims to fit different size seat tubes.I don't do smileys.
