Anyone know is I would be ok running a Tiagra Compact crank set with a Campagnolo Xenon CT 10 Speed front Derailer??

My new Wilier Lavaredo came with a Campagnolo Xenon 50/34 crank which broke on the maiden outing!! I trying to sort a replacement from the dealer but in the mean time I wondered if it would be ok fitting a Tiagara crank as an interim measure.

What kind of bottom brackets are we talking about? Or are you considering taking out the Campag BB and fitting a Shimano one with the Tiagra chainset?

Its a Miche bottom bracket so ideally would like to keep that. Im sort of thinking of just getting a new Campagnolo crank although it seems you cant get a Xenon any more.

They stopped selling the Xenon bits as consumer parts in 2009 - but they still supply them (and the at the time one-up Mirage parts) on some of the more budget bikes from Italian firms (Wilier, Bianchi etc).

I'm pretty sure the latest Xenon were still square taper BBs (whereas Mirage did go to Ultratorque). If it is, then it'll be an ISO-standard taper on the BB (whereas old Shimano square taper were JIS standard).

PS - all new campag chainsets will be external bearing Powertorque or Ultratorque versions. So you'd need to replace the BB too.

If you want to keep the existing BB, you should be able to find some aftermarket ISO 10 speed chainsets. And there should be some 'like new' square taper Campag 10 speed chainsets on ebay.
