Ever decreasing heart rate

Over the past 2 weeks I've done the same 29 mile route with 1200ft of ascents, 5 times.
The avg spd, avg HR and Strava Suffer Score stats for these rides are:
(max HR 185)

16.31mph 166 155 light wind
16.92mph 164 143 light wind
17.04mph 162 121 v strong wind
16.62mph 161 123 medium wind (didn't feel 100% before ride)
17.35mph 157 97 strong wind

As you can see my avg HR has consistently dropped while my avg speed has increased. I've been riding for 9 months and haven't noticed seen this happen before.

I'm wondering which of these is more likely:

1. I'm suddenly getting much fitter because I'm targeting hills more (I mostly rode flat terrain before this time)?

2. My HR monitor is running low on battery?

3. Perhaps I've learnt the route/hills and know where not to burn myself out too early on a hill?

Hoping it's no.1 but will have to try different routes to test out theory no. 3

Anyone experienced this before?

Nope. What makes you think that?

With your average HR dropping and average getting quicker - you're clearly getting fitter. I'd say though that you're also not trying as hard either!! Get that average HR back up to where it was and go even faster (you big slacker!!:lol: )

Some of the people I follow on Strava are faster than me but go round with a HR in zone 2 or 3, so I was pleased to see mine edging towards that. Tbh I feel as though I'm going hard at it all the time though.

Strong wind = faster tailwind out/home = lower hear rate average due to less exersion?

I did wonder this but I've often read on here that any wind makes a ride tougher overall - something like the benefits of a tail wind home not exceeding the energy spent in going out into the wind???

iam seeing the same sort off things to mate been riding from around end off november. my miss's (shes a nurse) said its because your hearts a muscle over time it gets stronger with exercise and it take less effort from it to pump the same amount off blood as it did. my resting heart rate has dropped alot to.

I have to take them and by design my heart rate doesn't get that high now. You're just getting fitter!
