Google glass & virtual peloton

For those who’ve never heard of it, google glass is a computer that you wear on your face like spectacles. It can overlay images over your normal view which you can interact with (augmented reality). I was just wondering how possible (and cool) would it be for Strava to integrate with it so you can have the entire leaderboard of a segment riding along with you. If you could actually see a representation of the KOM up ahead perhaps it would spare you on to catch him? You could even have a ‘ghost’ image of your PB self.
Thoughts?

p.s. I'm bored.

Something like this perhaps, http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/CTO ... creeneye_x
It is only good for heart rate but they are working on one that will show any info you want via Ant+ apparently.Smarter than the average bear.0 -

Yeah but the all important Strava segment riders are not there. If you could load it up with the top 10 on a segment and actually see a representation of them surrounding you that would be awesome.0 -
As a confirmed gadget freak I'd love something like what you have described.
I'm not sure if the technollogy is quite there yet, but give it a couple of years.
I foresee two counter arguments
1. It's wouldn't be safe
2. it would further separate us from the primeval freedom that cycling offers
With No.1 - well fighter pilots manage to fly super sonic aircraft, and fight with HUDs so I'm sure we can negotiate the high street
No.2 is a matter of taste. Some will prefer a simple fixie as the ultimate cycling experience and some will want fancy electronics and computer assisted gearing..... each to their own in my opinion.0 -

Just mountains/missiles/the ground/etc and at several times the speed of sound :shock:0 -

Google Glass or something like it (ANT+ version) has a huge amount of potential for sports all round (although cycling is an obvious one) so I think it's only a matter of time before someone makes a stick on HUD for your cycling glasses. Would be great to have HR or power data in the corner of your vision or a transparent blue line to follow for directions (I can see car windscreens doing this as well).
Strava based virtual peloton. I think there's someone who has done this for one of the laptop based turbo trainers already so it's not a huge leap (safely is another issue, I don't really want 4,500 people crowding my vision in Richmond Park transparent or not!).0 -

LOL - surely you would be able (virtually) to limit it to just the KOM!0 -
surely the best bonus isn't the power/training data but the navigation ? an arrow with the turn ahead"I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel, how good is that"

I was thinking of virtual riders ahead of me, all pedalling the road in 3D and me chasing them.
Now that would be cool.
The Planet X thing looked shyte. It gives nothing that looking down at your 500/800 doesn't give, costs a lot for a full set up and only gives data output in a baseball cap. Clearly invented by someone who doesn't cycle much.Boardman Elite SLR 9.2S

How about a carrot on the end of a stick? Hmmm."A beaten path is for beaten men"0

Just to add something else Garmin on their running watches do allow for a virtual partner option to show if you up/down on a virtual other runner on the same course as you. This virtual partner can be you on a previous run, another runner who you have downloaded their run data from, or a completely made up person with pacing you have input yourself.
I'm not a Strava user myself but does seem that Garmin are capable of doing this currently so why not put that bit of the programme into their cycle computers, or would this be seen as too dangerous?Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.0 -

I use the virtual trainer on my Garmin Forerunner which is fantastic at making you push yourself. The screen splits horizontally, and if you are ahead the virtual guy is white and if you are behind he is black. The distance ahead is also shown - but this can be confusing as it jumps around the 450 feet mark to 0.4 miles (or whatever the exact conversion is). You see the distance building into the hundreds and then all of a sudden it jumps down to a decimal value!
The virtual partner can be a previous ride you have done, or you can plan a route and give it a target pace. I would really miss this function if it wasn't on the next gadget I buy.0 -
This is an excellent idea, it would be great to have the virtual KOM on the road with you, or up the hill in front of you, rather than two tiny bikes and a time difference on the Garmin. I'm sure it will be possible in the next few years, if not sooner.
Now do you think they could develop Google draft, so you could take advantage of your virtual KOMs slip stream?0 -

Well Garmin already have the technology, just down to being able to download a route from Strava (as I've said not a user so not sure if this already exists) & then convert both or just the route to Google.
If the download can be done then its a simple fix for Garmin I guess but not sure what platform or how compatible the Google would need to be.Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.0 -

Make it a shiny upgrade on a stick instead and you're on to something.0 -
