Looks like a lot of bike for the money, if it's the type of bike you want I'd go for it.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

with regards to sizing. i currently have a medium (either 17 inch or 17.5 inch) Genesis Core10 (2009), the Kona is an18 inch (next down is a 16 inch) will this be ok for me as i cant test one near me

Not entirely sure where that bikes sees itself, but if you want a 100mm full susser than maybe look at the giant anthems on Pauls Cycles. Any idea of the Kona's weight?

Magic link rear suspension is terrible. I don't know why Kona stick with it, it's never worked and no one buys them. It's reduced by over a grand because they can't shift them. The Anthem would be a hundred times better, one of the best full sus xc frames available, there's a good reason why they sell so many Anthems.

Rode an anthem but preferred the trance as I wanted more travel. Very well regarded bikes, and you have more chance of getting a test ride.

the Kona does indeed look like a lot of bike for the money but I'd have to agree - If I had £1,400 odd to drop on full-suss XC bike I think it'd be this 2012 Anthem X2 (and it's £65 cheaper than the Kona)

Read any review of them and you'll see why. I'm not going to repeat what's been explained a million times on the internet already lol.
