Afternoon all

Went out thinking I would be joining my club ride but not sure what happened today but it wasn't on. Decided I was all kitted out so headed out, was thinking of doing around 50 miles loop with some hills thrown in but think things got out of hand slightly. :D

As I saw the signs for Southend I thought what the hell and kept on, thinking I would jump on the train back. Got lost slightly on the way as you can see from the slight deviation on my strava route. Quite hilly on the way so couldnt really put the hammer down but wished I hadn't as the return trip felt quite tough.

Managed to rope another cyclist in when I got lost, asked him for directions, he said he would cycle with me a part of the way and then decided to continue on into Southend, so Joe thanks again for the company, definitely helped!

Return was a little shorter and little slower as I was beginning to flag on the way back, had only had breakfast and a coffee and a few bars on the way and was beginning to feel it. Still managed roughly 86 miles mostly on my own and averaged 17.4mph over the 2 legs so not too bad. Longest ride in a very long time.

Now for some rest! Hope everyone else is out enjoying the weather and getting some miles in. Saw a fair few cyclists out, most waved or nodded so all plenty friendly out in Essex.

That ride perfectly illustrates why I couldn't live in/around London. I've done hillier TTs!

Guess I have to make do with what I have around me, may have to come to Wales at some point and try some of those hills! :)

  • If you had turned left half way down the A128 you would have found two of the most challenging hills in Essex.
Not quite in the same league as Wales though :)

I don't think there's anything in the vicinity that's even close to Caerphilly Mountain. Shame really as moving to London would be more convenient work-wise. :(

Lee not a bad idea, perhaps one weekend should give it a try. I would need to cycle a fair bit to get to you guys as i'm on the outskirts of Essex with London whilst I am guessing you guys are in the heart of it.

Does anyone know how to add my strava link to my signature? I added it but ut doesn't work and the first try just sends people to their own dashboard, not mine!

Though to be fair, these rides are hardly typical, looks as if he took he flattest most direct route possible. And ironically he travelled along one of the flattest 10 mile TT courses the E34/10 as part of his ride.
