Lost Garmin Data

So after almost a year of faultless service my Garmin 500 finally let me down today.

After a nice 121km ride with the club, i go to upload (mac) and it says there's nothing there. I look in the Garmin itself, and can't see the ride either.

Then, after a full shutdown and retry, it just says Error in Upload.

I've entered the ride details manually, as I remember most of them, but seems these k's dont't count for April's Specialized challenge, which more or less seals my fate, as it was going to be a stretch for me to hit the 1300km target as it was.

Anyone else had this problem? Any way to get my ride back, or is it lost forever?

yes its happened before, very rarely though and hasnt happened for the last couple of years. I think it happened by not saving the file then plugging it in (even so when normally doing this the file doesnt disappear). First thing I would suggest is to make sure you have the latest firmware. As it hasnt happened to me for so long maybe a previous firmware upgrade sorted it.
  • Is the memory full? My daughters 200 had a similar issue, clearing down the ride list sorted the problem.

No, it's only got about 5 rides on it.

There was a recent firmware upgrade (again at least for the 200) is it worth trying that?
  • I had this happen once and it was my fault as I didn't press the start timer properly and didn't pay attention to it as I was busy dodging traffic. As a consequence it didn't record data but still continued to display it on the head unit leading me to assume all was ok.

I also clear the head unit memory weekly after uploading.

    Lesson learnt now !

I know what you mean, but I'm careful not to do this, and check the clock is ticking when I ride. I stopped the timer on arrival and I remember it showing 3 hours 40 something.
