Hi,
My new Conti MKII's arrived today from Germany. This is what I bought:
http://www.bike-discount.de/shop/k371/a ... tubes.html
The tyres weight 650 ish though not 590 as advertised. They have made in germany written on the side but not in big bold letters like this:
The box has the handmade in germany logo and the black chilli logo but the box also states a 590g weight.
I'm not too bothered about the weight difference as such I just want to know ive got what Ive paid for.
Thanks

Sorry I'm not sure I understand what you mean?
My previous MKII wire bead only weighed 680 so the whole cost of the upgrade is now resting on how good this black chili is.0 -
Send them back - if they state a weight, you expect it to be close. That is not close enough.0

Stupid question maybe, but they haven't sent you 29ers by mistake?I don't do smileys.

According to Conti website, the protection tyres are 600 odd. The racesport are lighter. Looks like bikediscount are confused, maybe.

It looks like conti are the ones who are confused as this is the conti website i was looking at which does state a 590 weight:

My apologies, I simply google searched for an image of the handmade in germany logo which I was expecting to be on these tyres. No malicious intent I promise.0 -

btw - my Conti BC MK2 (Protection) doesn't have the big bold Handmade in Germany lettering either. Just the RQ (in the photo )
Re. weight. As CD says - the manufacturers are always fairly optimistic re. tyre weights but as sonic says - if you're not happy with it, you're more within your right to return the item"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

And what would you do about the weight difference? I really wasn't expecting to be having to return what are supposed to be top range tyres all the way back to f-ing germany.0

Well I'm not a weight weenie. So I don't really know whether or not I should just accept it and get out on the bike.Once I use these I cant return them then.
For a general trail rider hardtail tyre is this a reasonable weight or is it over what I should expect?0 -

Personally - I'd get them on the bike and ride! That package with 2x tubes is a cracking deal and you won't be disappointed with the tyres but maybe also send an email to Conti saying that you're unhappy as the stated weights are well of the actual weight and see what they say.
Out of curiosity - I just put a set of Bonty XR4's on the kitchen scale and they are bang on what bonty state on their website and that's including the cardboard and cable ties from the packaging"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Yeah its just slightly disappointing that's all. I hate not being happy with stuff I buy.
They are going on the bike right now I'm not missing out on a day's riding.0 -
I shouldn't be too worried, there's always going to be variation. As cooldad says =/- 10% is reasonable on tyres. My Nobby Nics came in about 50g heavier than claimed (630ish actual, 580g claimed). My hans Dampfs were pretty much bang on the claimed weight so if you're not too bothered about watching the grams I wouldn't be too worried. But you are within your rights to complain if you want too, just bear in mind you might send them back and still end up with a pair that are over the claimed weight.0

Tyres grip really well even at the 25 PSI i rode them on today so really pleased. Feels good to ditch the 1kg RQ I had on the front as well.0
-
they're good aren't they?
I usually run my front (BC RQ) at 25-27psi - grips like a mofo"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes
