Old wives tales...

...OK, not quite an old wives tale, but when in the drops how many folk actually have the handlebars covering the front hub when they look down? Mine is about a cm behind, yet I have often been told that a simple way of checking the proper stem length is by looking down and seeing if the front hub is covered - subjective I know as the fit of the bike feels fine to me.

Just wondering what others think of this?

    yeh its a "rough guide" I'm about the same as you and bike fit perfectly wouldn't worry about it :-)

  • The beauty of old wives tales, we all have a differant version ;0) Even on the hoods the bars sit a little behind the hub, nothing to get hung up over I suppose, just wondering why it came about?

    Like the Knee over the pedal spindle or the ball of the foot over the pedal axle it's kind of sort of nearly about right for most people...
