taking a couple of mates over with me next weekend to cheer us up and would like to conveniently stumble across a good bike rental place I've cycled there before with the ex but, outer-city heading into haarlem.
do you reckon a non cyclist would be okay on 'dam city paths? want to enjoy some erm culture and pootle round the parks hopefully, if i can swing my mate the 'eggman' into even attempting such a thing

I used to live there and visitors should be fine depending on their confidence level - even my nervous gf at the time was OK and got to really enjoy it
Need to coach them a bit to be extra careful of
1) trams and tram tracks - trams are virtually silent and front wheel stuck in parallel tram tracks needs no explanation!
2) mopeds which can whizz down the cycle paths - these are loathed even by locals
Locals are pretty patient if they see you're on hire bikes and aren't doing anything daft0 -

Hmmm, some of my mates are heading to the 'Dam next week to promote their film. No doubt you'll spot them!Ben

Thanks for info may be a week later now, I'd had a notion they would be overwhelmed by 'Dam city cycling as even i soon quickfooted to outer town then on to haarlem but rented from the hotel i stayed in and the bikes weren't maintained at all i do fancy a trip to a few parks if the weather holds out tho0

Stayed near Vondel park this time was lovely too, shame I'm not still there for queens day celebrations
Saw a few roadies but mostly nodders, parks & city centre traffic are not somewhere i'd put the miles in though..
Still amazed there is no compulsory helmet brigade with all those bikes without working brakes..
Passed on the cycle rental this time, as we were all knackered and wasted0
