Narrowest tyre on a 559x17mm rim?

I'm looking for some slicks and was wondering what the narrowest width tyre I could safely run on my 559x17mm rims. I've been looking at some 1.25 and 11/8 tyres. Would these be too narrow?

1.25 will be fine.0

Not sure what 11/8 means, but only use tyres measured in metric - 1.25, 2.1 etc. Anything measured in imperial, even if it says 26" will not fit.I don't do smileys.

1 1/8 = 1.125" i'm guessing, but can't help you with whether it fits or not!0

Thanks. So a 1.25 is fine then.
Interesting about the difference between fractional and metric sizing. I didn't know that. Thanks cooldad for the link. I've just learned something new.0
