Im looking for a mountain bike to use for riding to work on the roads everyday, i dont want to get a road bike, im using mountain bike now but i just want a decent one that looks nice, the most off road i will use it for is probably up some kerbs, lol.
Sorry but please don't recommend anything but a mountain bike because i just don't want anything but regardless of how "unfit" it may be for the usage.
Im looking at the Carrera Centos, Vengeance or the Vulcan (if i can find one for a good price) are the first two good bikes for my intended use? i have around £200-250 max to spend.
THANKS!!
Forgot to mention that im 6ft 4, im trying to find one with hydraulic brakes and front suspension lock, preferrably second hand as i dont think ill find one new for that price

Mountain bikes aren't particularly good on road. Just get a cheap one. Hydraulic brakes aren't common at this price and your better off with a rigid fork.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Why not look at used, you'll get what you want at that price point, otherwise you won't.
I'd suggest an MTB style Hybrid would be a better bet, the Voodoo Marasa would fit your bill perfectly but is £369....Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Good luck to you finding a bike in that price range with Hydraulic Brakes - you'll get something with front suspension but it will at most come with rebound adjustment, but more likely, just a preload adjustement on something like a Suntour XCT80.....
If you're doing road cycling and commuting to work you would be best spending your money on a Hybrid bike. That way you can get something with the ability to bump up and down kerbs, with relative comfort as some in that price range will have some form of front suspension and also you'll have the added benefit of 700c wheels which will help in terms of a bit of comfort and rolling efficiency, to a degree.....
If you just want a bike to look nice then get something that hipsters ride...It's been a while...0 -
If you absolutely MUST have a MTB for road use, have a look on ebay for something like an older Rockhopper. I picked up my '06 hopper in Oct for about £150.
Spend another £50 "roadifying" it a bit (tires, maybe some mudguards or something) and you're good to go.
I have to ask though, if you're only ever planning on riding on the road, why don't you want a road bike?0 -

Get an MTB biased Hybrid with rigid forks, it will look like a rigid MTB but be better suited to road use.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
