So I've got back into cycling after a long time off a bike. Started with hybrid then got a cheap BTwin road bike and started getting some miles in. Loved it so much that I got a decent bike on bike to work scheme. Also got an Elite Qubo Digital Turbo so taking things seriously. Then on the first outing on my new Trek Madone 2.3 (after a bike fit) I did a thirty miler which was my longest and was very hilly so I was well pleased with myself and my new bike. Due to the cold I wore padded bib shorts over padded tights so double padded. That afternoon I started getting some discomfort in the groin area. This ride was on 23rd February!!! This got steadily worse over the following week. After some real discomfort at work I went to the docs and was diagnosed with an infection in my right testicle. I was signed off of work and over the next 4 weeks was put on 3 different types of antibiotics. Although it eased it still didn't get better. Was then sent for ultrasound which showed no twists or infection or abnormalities which whilst I was very pleased about didn't explain my on going discomfort. Doc basically said they didn't know what was wrong and I felt they had given up so I pointed out that there is something still wrong and reminded him that I rarely go to the doctors and never go sick at work. He has then sent an urgent referral to a urologist which I am still waiting for.
So just wondered if Anyone else had ever experienced anything similar and just to say that I am really desperate to get out on my new bike but so worried that when I do I'll be at risk of going through this again. So gutted.

Had a similar thing a few years ago - although I think mine was caused by carrying a load of heavy shopping in a messenger bag and I obviously tore something on the commute back home of all things. I only went to the docs when I started p!ssing blood which freaked me out a bit. It's probably just one of those things - see what the urologist has to say, most importantly take your doc's advice to clear the infection up - forum's probably aren't the best place for medical advice? Then take it easy for a few weeks and maybe be a bit more generous with the chamois cream for a while?0

Had a very similar thing, had an ultrasound and was firstly diagnosed with torsion of the testies. The Doc pulled my ball sack down like milking a f&^cking cow and I nearly hit the roof with pain. They even tested me for testicular cancer (scary sh*t) as the pain was very uncomfortable all the time.. Turns out My Quads were so tight through cycling they were having a very adverse affect on my groin area (Yeah I was young and dumb and never stretched after cycling) Anyway a good course of stretching excersises made all the difference and the pain went away. If there's anyone reading this and wants to do a quick test on there quads lie flat on a table or bench and let your legs hand loose and they should dangle to the 6 O'clock position. Mine back then were more at the 7 o'clock position. Since then I do 30mins stretching every day even if I'm not on the bike as the next person tugging on my nuts better be the wife. Good Luck Greg0

Have you had the snip?0

OMG. think having the old chap cut off might be a bit extreme lol
No I haven't had the snip. Looked on so many forums and got do many possible answers. Just wait for Urologist I guess. Get a strange twitching at the top of it too which a lot suggest could be a hernia. Nightmare. Thanks for replies.0 -

Jeez, I didn't think stretching was that important. After reading your post I think I'll devote some more time to stretching.0 -

I went through a phase around the beginning of the year, whereby a lump had developed just behind, and to one side of my scrotum. It was very tender and painful and was a direct result of being in the saddle! It felt like a swollen vein, almost like a hemorrhoid, but I never sought medical help. It persisted for some weeks until, due to weather, I didn't get out on the bike for a few weeks. During this time, it seemed to settle down and the lump got smaller. To this day, a tiny lump still remains, although it is nowhere near as painful, barely noticeable in fact. I don't even think about it anymore.
The funny thing is, I find that wearing my padded shorts for long periods in the saddle is actually more uncomfortable than just my normal cycle shorts, and it was while wearing these that my problem started. I find the natural ergonomics of my saddle against my gusset more comfortable. If I could recommend anything, it would be to try out a range of different saddles.
Hope you get back out on the bike soon!
EDIT: Having read all the posts properly, you problem is clearly more serious. As already said, I hope a cause and solution are found and you get back out soon!0
