I have a Garmin 800 gps system on my bike which is great for cadence, hr, trip computer stuff etc and also good to look at the map, elevation etc when I download my rides to the pc. However I have never found a good site (Garmin i find is poor) where i can plan a route online and then download to my garmin so i can use as a sat nav.
What is the best site for this please ?
Thanks in advance.

Bikehike for me.
However i do find that the Garmin Connect planner is pretty good. Certainly is the final step for me if i plan a ride so i can input useful data into the Garmin directly (direction, avg speed, virtual partner etc)0 -
Mapsource download and then download free maps from talkytoaster. You might have to do some research cos I can't remember how to do it but it's worth it. Otherwise Garmin Basecamp and free maps from talkytoaster but basecamp isn't as easy to use.Smarter than the average bear.0

I use http://ridewithgps.com/. Once you have created an account, you can create routes by simply drawing them directly on a map. Once you're finished, you can save it and upload it to your device in a variety of formats. Great tool and completely free.0

+ another. I used to use Bikeroutetoaster as mentioned by someone else above but I think Ridewithgps has improved a lot and is now the planner of choice for me. You can pay and get some more functionality but the free version is really good anyway. I also find the GPX Route is the best format to use and settings as described here http://www.forgot.co.uk/edge-800/ seem to work very well too.Vaaru Titanium Sram Red eTap
