Well did my first sportive Sunday only did the 42 mile route thank god thought I was going to die at half way head wind from hell and every hill in derbyshire linked together think I need more fitness before I do another lol

Hi, I did the 80 mile long route, agreed it was brutal. Staying upright was difficult because of the wind!!

good read in your blog m8 i never made it up rowsley wood climb lol it beat me this time the wind just about killed me head wind most of the way then cross wind put me on grass twice i was that knackerd almost for got to unclip at feed station had to peddle down most of the hills stoped to mend a puncture for a young lady with no iner tube or tools or pump but still finished in the silver time band so not to bad for my first sportive swore i would never do another when i got home lol but ive been looking for another one to enter i must be mad

Thanks, organisers, for making my first ever sportive (65 km or so "short" route) really enjoyable! Really well-organised and sign-posted. Not far from the finish it was hilarious, in a delirious sort of way, to look ahead of me up Rowsley Bar hill, and see the devastation of scattered cyclists in various states of exhaustion, some walking, some cycling, some stationary, caused by this seemingly endless, steep, winding road! I made it up there, thankfully the photographer wasn't there. Then, despite the comprehensive sign-posting, I managed to take a "long-cut" through Chesterfield to the finish! Happily, I was in the company of some guys from Bolsover who obviously wanted the ride to go on just that bit longer as well! I am very glad the weather was cool and damp and that there was plenty of camaraderie. Thanks for a great event. I might be back when the psychological scars have healed but I think I'll give the long route a miss for now!!!

I am currently sat in the office at work less than 3miles from Rowsley Bar and I'm yet to build up the courage to tackle it - so well done to all those that attempted it and even more so to those that got up without stopping!! Good effort!!
