Cycle from ayr to ardossan ferry

Hi,
Could someone recommend the best route for me to cycle from ayr to ardossan ferry?
I am going over to arran one weekend and and not sure of the route to the ferry..

    I would advise largely following NCR7 from Ayr towards Kilwinning and taking coast road (A78) to Saltcoats/Ardrossan just after Ravenspark golf course. If you put in start and end location here http://www.sustrans.org.uk/ it will show you cycle path sections and where you need to use roads.

    I'm heading to Arran myself on Saturday, does anyone know what the state of the roads is? Heard from a colleague they were pretty bad with pot holes at the moment. :(
