Done a bit of research into the Garmin 500 and 800 and think if i get a GPS device I want mapping. The 800 can be had for £230 with basic maps and the Rider 50 for £170 and the Mio for £175. The price difference over above the Edge 500 make the Bryton and Mio look good value but i am not sure about reliability and functionalty etc of these units. Long shot i know but has anyone used the Bryton and the Mio and can you give me any advice?

I have a Mio for sale over in the classifieds. About six months old. No problems nice and easy to use. The bit I don't like is analysis after the event. Mio share just gives you an overview. The GPX format it uses is not compatible with Strava for HR/cadence data but I could work round that.

The Mio has two good points. The bigger being the surprise me function - want to do a 30 mile loop? Want to go to work, and take about 5 miles extra that's fine. The other is pre-loaded POIs that are cycle related - bike shops etc.

    Paul.

I have a Bryton Rider 50 and like it. It's proved to be reliable, and I like the customisable data screens. Also smaller than the Mio (which I almost bought bit went for the cheaper Bryton instead). I think either units are pretty good, the Mio impressed me with the Surprise Me route-builder function, and the amount of bike data you could get on te map screen, especially turn by turn navigation.
