Yes thats right got my first KOM and well I'm chuffed!

Probably nothing new for some of you but means I can definitely push myself harder so long as some things go my way, no red lights, no traffic etc.

Thanks mate, actually feels pretty good to know I could possibly mix it up with some more experienced cyclists....possibly.

I never thought I would see the day that someone got excited about riding over a flyover :-)

Strava has a lot to answer for.

    Well done! :)

I've only ever got 1 and then it was a dead heat with someone who got the KOM a couple of days earlier.

Also, according to my brother in law, descents aren't KOM worthy. I definately won't be getting any climbing

I got one and it lasted one whole day... Seems like all the world and his father went out to beat it and I ended up seventh...

It's a bit like crack cocaine - you're having a buzz, a real high. KOM! Yes!

Then the day will come when the fateful email lands in your inbox....

"Uh oh! Stringyproracer just took your KOM! Better get out there and get it back!"

And your day will lie in tatters around you....... :D

Its a good idea if you think youve got a KOM with a good tailwind, as most of them are, to delay putting the ride on Strava for a few days until the wind has died down or changed direction or somebody will see it and go out and use the same wind to try and get it.

I didn't really get a tailwind but there was a garbage truck about 10 metres ahead which I was trying desperately to close in on to get a tow. Didn't quite manage it by the time it got to the traffic lights to slow down before I hit the flyover. If I had a tow on the main stretch and no red light I reckon I could beat that time again.

I dont know about most people but I try to use my 10 mile each way commute as a training ride for what its worth. I cannot physically cycle very slowly because I have quite a high cadence so I just go for it when I can. Interestingly I have cut my time down comfortably since last year by 2-3 mins but now it is difficult shaving anymore time off with traffic and the lights to contest.

I really want to try a 10 mile TT and see what sort of time I can attain.

I think goonz needs to try some real hills instead of flyovers

My average cadence tends to be 93 but dropped to 42 on this one...and if I could have gone slower and stayed upright I would have :) :

I mean I cant simply amble along taking in sights and moving at a snails pace, i have be doing a far number of mph. It is true I do wish my journey was hillier and I could tackle some more hills.

Segments are funny things. For a while I had the second best time on one in the Outer Hebrides despite stopping part way up to have a sit on a bench and admire the view for ten minutes or so. Looking more closely at the results pretty much everyone else had done the same thing!

Just go for it! Time trialing is such an easy sport to get into.

I just got my first KOM during a TT!!! It was for a particularly technical descent in a hilly 18.5m TT that saw me retake two minute men who had caught me. They were most surprised but had forgotten I was riding my road bike and not my TT rig so had a major advantage through some 30mph+ corners.

I stopped to take my jacket off right at the start of my first QOM. Fortunately I was the only person to have cycled it sans testicles so a QOM by default was mine

You can always choose the granny gear; high cadence, low speed ;)

    Congrats on your first KOM

Strava is addictive, there's a guy near me that always goes after all of mine, quite a nice rivalry even though we've never met!
