Used brakes?

Hi all,
I'm looking to upgrade my Avid Elixir 5 brakes (that I believe to be cursed) on my Giant Trance X2. I am looking at getting the new generation of Shimano brakes (lever and caliper), but not sure what model to get. I have a budget of between £100 and £120 for a pair.
For that budget I can get M596 from CRC, which score very well in Bike Radar tests. Or I could get used items of a higher spec, XTR, SLX etc.
Does anyone have any recommendations as to what brakes to buy and on buying used brakes sight unseen?

If you can wait a week (showing out of stock) you can get a set of SLX delivered for your budget from Rose Bikes

Rose bikes generally deliver them in Euro-spec - left front, right rear. Just a thing to bear in mindSpecialized Roubaix Elite 2015

Takes two minutes to swap them back to the correct, UK orientation. Hoses usually need shortening anyway, the standard lengths were far too long even for my downhill bike.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
New Deore. I have XT which I love but if I was buying again I would probably go for the Deore as the extra knobs and screws arent needed in my opinion once you have everything set up.Fig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0
